Doctor Update (or the worst, part 3)

Emerson had her 12 month check up today, which got off to a very rocky start because she has a severe case of stranger danger and the nurse put her on high alert. Once we managed to get her weighed and measured, she actually did well for the doctor. The verdict: she is in very good health and hitting all of her milestones. She continues to be a skinny giant, weighing in at 19 pounds 14 oz (30th percentile) and 31.25" (over the 100th percentile). She had three immunizations that went as expected, but she seemed to forget about them because she has been shaking these maracas all over the house all afternoon.

One!

The big day happened on Sunday - Emerson turned one (as she is showing below). We had a party at our house with friends and family - unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, but all went well. It is crazy how fast this year has gone and how much she has changed (and probably us too). It seems like it was not that long ago that we were waiting and waiting and waiting for her to make her appearance. I'm pretty sure she still maintains a bit of that same stubbornness (which I am certain that Ryan will say that is courtesy of me).

Oh the birthday gifts - we may need a new house. She has been enjoying all of her new toys - all over the house.

Yum!!

Apparently, she is not a big fan of party hats (really of anything that attaches to her head).

But, fortunately, Ryan is a big fan of party hats - who knew?

The first bite of a soon to be destroyed cake.

And finally....We had balloon boquets for Emerson's party which she was absolutely terrified of. If you walked her over near them, she would become very tense, cry, and attempt to crawl out of your arms & over your back. She would only look at them from a distance. On Monday, she became brave and investigated the ballons that were now just hovering above the floor. She actually ended up playing with them for some time and carting them around the house. I'm not sure why the change of heart -perhaps she is afraid of the helium.
